    Auto leaking from multi plug

My sons D2 has a leak from auto transmission. It looks like it is coming from the multi plug on the LHS above the the gearbox mount.

Looking at RAVE there is an "O" ring behind this plug which will involve removal of pan and possibly valve body to replace.

Has anybody done this? Could it be leaking through the wires like the engine injector harness?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

"SNAP" :-) what colour is the oil ? had flashing m & s a few weeks back . discovered multiplug was full of oil ( i thought ) . disconnected and cleaned plug . good for a few days then returned. scratch head time . !!! removed consul and repaired wiring ( wears on top of box ) while there i traced " oil " all the way back to a leaking fuel pressure regulator . replaced regulator . all good . regards plug :- o ring on inside . disconnect multi plug and check that locking nut is tight . removal :- cannot recall if possible to remove without dropping the valve body . BUT be very gentle with the wiring . its not very flexible after years of heat cycles . pete :-)

There is an o ring, and yes you will need to remove the valve body to remove the wiring harness and plug/ o ring.

Just been for a long drive and oil has yet to appear, so I am not 100% sure that it is the multi plug.

After another look, a possible source could be the breather, which is also near where the oil is appearing.

As my drive was much further than an RWC tester would drive, I am going to leave it for now.

Dave, in all my years of working on these cars I've yet to find one leaking. Replaced plenty of 6hp data sleeves though, but the 4hp o ring and sleeve are not common to leak IME

    ZF Oil leak.

thought i had sorted the oil leaking onto exhaust pipe etc when i replaced the leaking fuel pressure regulator a few weeks back .
stuck my nose under car last week to see it back again !!
fast forward to yesterday . car up on ramps ( wheels strapped to ramps ) and jack stands . red auto oil dripping from tip of box mount onto exhaust.
    IMG_20200731_150207.jpgIMG_20200731_150225.jpg

removed center consul etc to get a good look at top of box. squeeky clean . light covering of dust . NO OIL anywhere !!
can see top of multiplug connector :- covered in oil again . area was cleaned after fpr replacement .
back under car again . oil dripping from last bolt on lhs of sump housing . bolts checked. all tight . new gasket / filter fitted 16k ago after i had an oil cooler line blow out .
again . NO signs of any oil leaks !! disconnected multiplug . full of oil ! tried my best with pics . juggling mirror / torch / phone camera.

inside of plug ( part that goes through box casing ) has oil pooled in bottom.
    IMG_20200731_152211.jpgIMG_20200731_152319.jpg

oil pooled below socket as well. oil possibly runs down onto sump lip and run along it to rear , then on downwards .
box is 70k's old . a new replacement by previous owner. sump gasket and filter supplied by mario . the autobox wiring loom was removed , cleaned , repaired to cure intermittent "M & S " problems at the same time as FRP replacement .

SO how does the oil get into the plug ?? scratching my head over this one . if for some reason the o ring has let go inside the box , then it would leak , but the inside of plug would be dry.
no leaks from rear seal on box or from t/fer box seals.

    what have i missed ??
    gofer :-)
