SubscriberHello I am planning on putting in a reversing camera, in the middle of the bumper bar above the tow ball. I plan on putting the screen above the rear view mirror, where I think the sun roof switches would be. I can think of three routes to run the wiring.
1 Up to the rear lights and into the body, then along the inside of the headliner.This does mean removing the headliner, or loosening parts of it.
2 Up to the rear lights then under the floor carpet forwards then up the inside of the A Pillar. Not good I think for the wires to be under the carpet.
3 Along the underside of the car up under the A pillar trim.
Any other ideas? Options?

What vehicle?
In our Defender there are two cameras, one above the towbar and the other above the rear door.
They are connected inside to the reversing light so they operate when the vehicle is in reverse, which also gives them power.
The wiring runs in the channel above the side windows to the front, then down the windscreen pillar to the dash and across to the Polaris GPS screen mounted on the dash, which has it's own power supply.

Installed a wireless reverse camera in that spot above the towbar.
In through the rear lights, and put the wireless module as high in the pillar as I could reach with the supplied tape.
Bonus was the reverse lights wire was there as well to power it.
Never had a problem with it and its been there about 18 months now.

Although it is designed to be powered by the reverse signal, if you take it out ( of reverse) then you lose you camera. I have used the taillights previously so you can have camera whenever you want it.

SupporterThe Main problem with that setup is that IF you are using your GPS as the reversing camera screen you will loose the GPS function when you turn the lights on.
By hooking up to the reversing lights you will get the camera working when you actually need it

Mine is connected so I can do both backwards and forwards if I want.

SupporterI ran mine from the headunit down the drivers side under the carpet and floor/side panel trims to the rear tall door. I then pushed the wiring through the rubber that the factory tailgate wiring is in. I mounted mine diagonally above the number plate below the handle.
