Question Auto trans oil, manual gearbox oil and transfer box oil renew periods?

Am I reading the Maintenance Check Sheet right that the Manual Gearbox Oil or Automatic Transmission Oil, and Transfer Box Oil are meant to be renewed every 40,000km on the D2's?

I was told that every 20,000k's was optimal for the auto flush/refill and filter change on my D2a.
It costs me less than $200 to get mine done so that's less than 1c per K which is acceptable to me to keep my gearbox healthy

I'd say an auto flush every 20k km is excessive (unless your doing some easy heavy towing work - but I know that you've got your 70 series for that). Just a drain and refill would suffice as if you did that every 20k km then you'd get close to full fluid renewal every 40k km as per LR schedule.

I'd suggest that service period could likely be pushed out further now given the superior ATF products available, that most of us are probably using, compared to what was commonly available in 1998 when these were released.

Yeah, it's not so much the cost of it all but rather the extra time on the maintenance tasks. Looking back through my service records it would seem that I'm pleasantly surprised that I've generally been following this schedule - sometimes due to leaks and repairs requiring it to be drained etc.
It does however seems very needy compared to other vehicles.
Even the same oil in the diffs lasts four times longer than the transfer case.

I agree, every 20k km is probably over the top with the AT, but I'd do that with the R380.
It really punishes good manual trans fluids

40k here, however we have a few hard working 130 td5 that get more trans oil changes
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

As my D2a is definitely Not a "Toorak Tractor" and it spends a Lot of it's time in either low range/CDL locked up towing, launching and retrieving a boat on the beach the auto is worked pretty hard, This is why I have a more intensive maintenance schedule than most other D2 owners.
I also drain and replace the oil in the diffs and transfer box every year on the D2a just like I have for every other 4WD I have ever owned as well.

IF you are using your 4WD for what it was designed for on a regular basis there is NO such animal as "Over Servicing" as far as I am concerned
