Changing Landover td5 crank angle sensor/crank position sensor

Looked this up a bit and thought I'd share my experience.

The sensor is down below the fuel pressure regulator just above and behind the starter motor. It is held in by one 8mm bolt.

I used a deep socket 1/4 inch drive. The bolt has an upward tilt and you can absolutely not see what you're doing.

I put the long socket on the bolt first but found I was able to have the socket connected to the ratchet once I got a feel for the bolt.

I turned the wheels all the way to the left, laid in that space with my feet facing all the way to the rear and mainly used my right hand.

I left the electrical plug plugged in until I got the sensor out and plugged the electrical connector in before I put the sensor back in..

I had 2 out and 1 in in approximately an hour and I found it to be an easy repair, once you find it.

i was able to do mine from the top, using long 1/4” extension bars. But it helps to have skinny forearms and a long experience of reaching into hard to get places from working on FIATS

or fat arms that progressively end up as skinny types after so many jobs on Lancias too .. oh! and P6's(mainly V8s) and some RRC jobs .. oh, and recently I find out that some D1 Tdi jobs require a similarly affected genetic evolution!

P6s!!! AND Renault 16s. I'll NEVER forget doing a roadside starter change on a lowered FIAT 124AC, or it's bloody clutch cable, or....
Water pump on the Coper S was a breeze in comparison.
    I miss them all though.

LOL! I only miss my Mini('76 I think) but importantly had a full tilting fibreglass front end.. talk about a breeze to repair!
Probably weakened the body to high heaven, but the ease to fix .. everything! much appreciated. Needed ball joints for roadworthy .. I reckon took an hour or two to do with very simple tool set.

Don't think Japs can be better in every way.

Isuzu 3.2 V6 (Holden Frontera/Rodeo) starter and alternator .. arrgghh!
Great motor, just hope starter and alternator lasts for 'ya.
TD5's FPR is a 'stroll in the park' by comparison!

Rav4 (roughly '06 ish model) .. major PITA to change a simple serpentine tensioner.
I reckon the factory method would involve engine removal judging by location. I left the brother in law to the gods of luck after about 2 hours of headscratching. He told me he did get it .. jacked engine and stressed mounts to get a few mils of clearance required .. or something like that.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.
