    Dumb Question re ecu upgrades

    Hi...I have a D2a Manual that I have had since 2011 it’s only got 172000kms on it.
I have often wondered if it has been or has had a ecu upgrade..remap etc..from the previous Owner.
How would one tell if it has or is still standard tune ? As I don’t have another to compare.
Are there any points in the Nanocom that would tell me or you.?
    kind Regards Brad😳🤔🤔

    G'day Brad,
You can use your Nanocom to read and download/save your current tune onto the SD Card. If you then find someone who knows about these things and how to read/edit/create tunes, you could e-mail it to them and they could take a look and tell you if it's just a factory base tune or been tickled.
If you struggle to find someone to take a look, let me know I have previously met someone who could and would be happy to ask him on your behalf.

Won't the file suffix tell you if it is a stock file or modded one?
AFAIR the stock file has a different suffix to the modded ones, so you could see what the file type is by copying the file off the ECU onto a SD card then reading it in a lap top.
    Regards PhilipA
My modified files are MAP files. Ther eis another suffix for files which are VIN restricted by the aftermarket developer and I am sure someone will chime in with the suffix.

The stock file for my EU3 also has lots of references to the fact that Volvo designed them if opened in a text editor.
The stock file has a VBF suffix which is a Ford /Volvo protocol.

You can always measure your 60-100kph performance holding 4th gear. Stock will take 11.5 seconds and feel sluggish. With a remap you should be able to do much better than this.

This is a good test as it measures the performance over the full max torque range and is not impacted by any gear shifts.

The only way to tell if it's tuned..(other than performance) is to actually have a look at the tune, prefix/suffix etc don't mean squat.

That's not quite correct either, td5inside tunes that are written for use with a nanocom will most likely come via email having the .tun file extension, this is an encrypted file that can't be read by the end user, and cannot be read (generally speaking) back out of the ecu with the said nanocom, this is done to protect "intellectual property".

The .map format is also compatible with the nanocom but is not encrypted, it can also be tuned to whatever state desired as easily as a .tun file, there is no difference at all.

    Cheers
    James

2006 TD5+Nanocom+EGR removed, otherwise more or less stock. Where does one look to find a decent map to flash the ECU?

This is 2020 so all this should be well and truly resolved and sorted.

    Suggestions?

There's a number of tuners. I've not seen any real comparisons so you'll get a vast number of opinions. The topic has been covered numerous times previously so if you do a search and some reading you'll get them. But to get you starter, off the top of my head:
    Bruce Davies
    Triumph Rover Spares
    Td5 Inside
    Bell Auto Service
    Alive Tuning (formerly Td5Alive)
    Tombie
    IRB Developments
    Empire Tuning
    Storm Tuning
and I'm sure there's many others that I've forgotten. Some do have reps that probably make them worth avoiding but you'll find that out when you read about them...
