Lucky man!!!
The saga continues....
I got a chance to take it for a test drive this afternoon. On boost I'm getting a strange sound like a super charger whine... it's very noticeable when you get it on boost. It's a very strange sound. I'm having a bad feeling it has something to do with the turbo probably due to oil starvation when the oil pump bolt came loose. If I rev the engine In neutral the sound is not there. Only on boost.
I really hope it's not the turbo as it's a td5 hybrid turbo. [emoji20] The only other way I can describe the sound is like a noisy thrust bearing on a manual. If any one has some ideas I'm all ears.
Unfortunately I think you're bang on, pop the intake off and check bearing play , compressor housing for scoring etc
Ok.... So I checked the turbo for bearing play. Well unfortunately for me it looks like the turbo is ****ed! [emoji20][emoji20] I can move the impeller up and down about probably 3 or 4 mm to the point where it will touch the housing. I have attached pictures for you to see. Not sure what to do at this point. When ever I get someone to do something on my disco there is always problems after..[emoji17][emoji17]Attachment 165510Attachment 165511
Bugger, maybe see if you can find the bearing number for the turbo , or see if there is a CHRA that Jose can send if you could get hold of him.[bighmmm]
Alternatively, it's possible that a local turbo rebuilder could sort it, meantime you might have to whack the old one on if you still have it and need the vehicle.
