    The saga continues....

I got a chance to take it for a test drive this afternoon. On boost I'm getting a strange sound like a super charger whine... it's very noticeable when you get it on boost. It's a very strange sound. I'm having a bad feeling it has something to do with the turbo probably due to oil starvation when the oil pump bolt came loose. If I rev the engine In neutral the sound is not there. Only on boost.

I really hope it's not the turbo as it's a td5 hybrid turbo. Is my td5 engine cactus? Oil light is on! The only other way I can describe the sound is like a noisy thrust bearing on a manual. If any one has some ideas I'm all ears.

Unfortunately I think you're bang on, pop the intake off and check bearing play , compressor housing for scoring etc

Ok.... So I checked the turbo for bearing play. Well unfortunately for me it looks like the turbo is ****ed! Is my td5 engine cactus? Oil light is on!Is my td5 engine cactus? Oil light is on! I can move the impeller up and down about probably 3 or 4 mm to the point where it will touch the housing. I have attached pictures for you to see. Not sure what to do at this point. When ever I get someone to do something on my disco there is always problems after..Is my td5 engine cactus? Oil light is on!Is my td5 engine cactus? Bugger, maybe see if you can find the bearing number for the turbo , or see if there is a CHRA that Jose can send if you could get hold of him.

Alternatively, it's possible that a local turbo rebuilder could sort it, meantime you might have to whack the old one on if you still have it and need the vehicle.
