    Immobiliser Playing Tricks

The beast won't start ! Turning over fine, but nothing happening. Very occasionally over the years, the same thing has happened, but get out the car, double lock, double un-lock using the key fob and all is usually well.

Nothing happening this time, but something wierd is happening in that in my efforts to try to start it, tonight I have noticed the 2nd row light occasionally does a strobe flash, about once every 10 seconds. I have left the car, and returned a couple of hours later but no go. I have my nanocom and know my EKA, I just started a while before to try the key over-ride method, and the car made a couple of 'dong' noises it has never made before, I had disabled the alarm previously as used to have dogs in the car, so not getting the required alarm noise. Something is happening, but not sure what.

Any pointers or tricks at this point, I have tried doing a bit of research and it seems I cannot use the nanocom to dis-engage the immobiliser, not sure what to try next ?

    Immobiliser issue

As an update, when I turn the ignition on, the battery and oil lights come on, the M & S lights flash, the car cranks over, but nothing there. I can hear the fuel pump is operational. I have checked all the fuses and they are all Ok.

Am I missing something, or it is time for an auto-electrician ?

    Any help greatly appreciated.

It’s likely time to charge the battery or replace it.

    Immobiliser issue

Thanks Gents, battery is strong, have also charged overnight for good measure, and yes the key fob is working.

I have tried the EKA method to disable the alarm using the key in door, sequence starts fine, LED blinks for longer, then stops, but when I have finished inputting the code, turn to unlock, remove key, but the LED doesn't come on again which it is supposed to. I am thinking this is possibly because it is not the immobiliser after all.

When I crank the engine, the rpm's stay on zero, do not move at all, and found some topics that say if this happens it is a faulty crankshaft sensor. So I am going to check the connection and clean that up today, about to see if I can do anything with the Nanocom on this, but assuming if the sensor does not think there is a problem, then neither does the ECU.

I have also been reading RAVE and the EMS about Immobilisation:

When the starter switch is turned on, the BCU sends a unique security code to the ECM. The ECM must accept this code before it will allow the engine to operate. If the ECM receives no security code or the ECM receives an incorrect security code, then the ECM allows the engine to run for 0.5 seconds only

When the immobiliser has played up the couple of times it has done in the past, this is exactly what has happened, engine briefly tried and then stops. I now recognise it when this happened, out the car, lock, unlock, back in and all is fine.

I am pretty certain the same 0.5 seconds happened when it stopped this time, but no totally sure, which then brings me back to the fact it is now immobilised and it is not recognising my key code for some reason. The key fob seems to be working perfectly and works from a distance.

I wish I knew how to get the nanocom to work for me here, no faults are coming up, but wish it could tell me what is working ? Is there anyway I can find out if the ECU has immobilised the engine, and that it is an immobiliser issue ? Googled it but not finding out what I would like to know, if anyone has any tips on this I would be very thankful.

I haven't even gone there why the M & S lights are flashing........

So today I will have a closer inspection of the Crankshaft sensor, that is the side of the engine with oil about.

EDIT: I just found on Nanocom that the ECU is not immobilised, and have also cleared the M & S flashing with faults on gearbox - P1884, which is an on-going thing for a long time. I have just sprayed some de-greaser around the CKS, now thinking it must be an earthing issue.

    Cheers,

    Matt.

    Immobiliser issue

    Thanks Tombie,

So it is looking very much like the crank case sensor, is it normal for it just to pack up in one go, one day the car is fine, the next it will not start ?

Revs on tacho are zero when cranking, and when turn the ignition on I can hear the fuel pump is working. Is there anything I can do now to test to make sure it is indeed the sensor, will cleaning the it make any difference ?

    Immobiliser issue - or not

Got the car towed to the mechanic and turns out it was the fuel pump. Was working but not generating the required pressure. It had been replaced shortly before I got it 8 years ago, was 223kms then and 335kms now. New VDO unit fitted.
