AN8 is the perfect size.
I used 1/2inch to 8AN fittings on the transmission hard lines and worked perfectly. So I know the concept works.
I ended up using Speedflow connectors made in Australia. Expensive but worth every dollar. Would highly recommend. I have no affiliation with them, they just produce a quality product!
Others have used JLC (I think that’s the name) lifesaver fittings I believe which are a weld on AN fitting on the cooler itself like you are asking for and modified the rubber hoses appropriately.
Tangent aside. Yes I believe it will work.
