    I think the aperture is the same, it would probably be easier to graft a new latch to the pillar rather than modifying the door internals.
    Check the hinges too.

    I have a couple of spare D2 doors and an old D1 shell. (both 4 door but I assume the latches are the same) Might have to give it a shot

    To my (current) knowledge, the only interchangeable panel D1 to D2 is the rear door outer skin. Maybe time to have a bit of a play to see what bits can be (easily) made to fit.

    The different external door handles would be enough to nullify interchangeability of the skins.
    D1 has a single, larger, rectangular punching for the handle, compared to two smaller holes on the D2.
