I bought my D2a about 6 years ago for 10k and have since then spent well in excess of 15k in repairs, parts, bullbar, winch etc.
Welcome to the world of D2 ownership[bigwhistle][biggrin]

Are you having fun?
Mine cost 10k 5 years ago and has about 9k spent on it. Money well spent. I have fun driving it and working on it. I aim to keep the car for as long as possible. What can go wrong with it? Now that the head has been fixed. The gear box, transfer case, engine etc? buy a second hand or rebuilt part. Out here rust is not really a problem.
I bought my 03 d2a manual TD5 for $6k
Drove it down from Qld and the HG was stuffed.
So replaced the HG and all that then the head got an crack in it, new AMC head expensive as hell, then the r380 5th went, new Ashcroft box, new clutch, lockers and mods set me back around $38k excluding the purchase of the disco
But when all the time spent fixing it and making it better it's definitely one of an kind d2a in Australia and love it every bit
So,
Basically,
We are all MAD!
Should change the name from Discovery2 to the Hatters Tea Party.

You haven’t mentioned how many KM’s the car has or confirmed it is a TD5, but the Harmonic Balancer probably needed replacement anyway.
I would also check the timing chain guides as the plastic starts to breakdown and crack as well which can lead to another expensive repair job if they fail.
Heh heh - actually plastic timing chain guides is very common across many engine manufacturers. It is about not wearing out the timing chain - but they are a wearing part that should be looked at if removing the timing chain cover.
My old D2’s timing chain guides started to fail at 480,000kms. [emoji3]
