    Question BMW wheels on D2's

Anyone here running BMW wheels on their D2's? If so what size, offset and from which model variant?

Was recently chatting to Dean Lapham of TotalTd5 who has been developing big brake kits and he advises that over in the UK BMW wheels on the D2 is a common fit as they're the right stud pattern, hub centre hole and load rating.

I think over there though base spec BMWs are far more common. From the used BMW wheels I've seen available here the sizes and offsets don't seem too appropriate.e

Probably X5 rims. Same stud pattern and slightly larger centre bore. Comes in a variety of offset options.

Get the wheel-size app and you can do a reverse search based on rim size and using a range for centre bore and offset.

Don't fit X5 rims without also fitting metal hub-centric rings.

I was going to fit 17x7.5 X5 rims (+40mm offset) to my D2 prior to moving them to a D3 but didn't get to do so. The rims did a stint on my D4 with LT245/70R17 Duratracs which now sit unused in a shed. They need long shank nuts to fit a D3/D4 but I don't know if the D2 also requires the nuts.

Thanks for that. I had no idea such an app existed, although, on reflection, I probably should have. That's invaluable.

I run BMW X5 rims 18x8.5 +46 using VL Commodore tapered wheel nuts. Interested to know if there are any bigger brake kits available.

On Facebook if you join Td5Mafia, Dean Laphams business is doing front Brembo 4pot or 6pot, 340mm (16" rims) or 380mm (18" rims). Rears are Brembo 4pot 340mm. Works really well with standard MC/booster, option of the MC/Booster from the rangie with 6pot Brembos and he will do the fit kit to suit Disco2.

I'm not sure if they're ready yet and what range of wheels fit, although it Dean has the Compomotives I think on his Disco2.
    Cheers

And this is where I get unexcited about the BMW wheel specs - ideally 8" is sufficient wide enough for me, wider could just mean more rubbing issues. The ideal wheel offset is +32mm to maximise track width while staying legal.

There's a seperate thread about them. Worth checking out if you're interested.

Spoke to him this morning (our time). Big delays due to their lock down restrictions. His next step is to get some measurements sorted to give an indication of what wheel setups etc. will fit but unlikely to be able to do so until February now...

To fit X5 wheels, does it require the same hubcentric as that used when running D3/4 etc type wheels?

    VL? Aren't they M12x1.5

I thought the Disco2 was M14x1.5 like the VE?

Hey Slunnie, I thought they were VL but maybe there are VE as they are definitely M14x1.5. Definitely tapered so not bothered with centric rings.
