I undone the front one by jacking the car up as far as i could go,put the breaker bar on a car stand and let the jack down,All done from behind a brick wall in case something gave way.Perhaps you could hire a torque multiplier from somewere.
Hi All,
Started a long overdue replacement of the LH rear hub today - until I got to undo the stake nut. 500 mm breaker bar with my full, not-inconsiderable weight standing on the end made no impression on it. Nor does a 600 mm length of water pipe on a sliding tee-handle (except for starting to bend the tee-handle bar).
So most knowledgeable ones, how do mere mortals shift these things please? Will a rattle gun move it? (Neighbour has one, but is away today.) Really don't want to put it back together with the greasy old undersized disc and worn-out pads to take it somewhere if it can be avoided. Thanks.

There is a neat, even if I say so myself, wheel nut torque spreadsheet.

100kgs at 500mm is 490Nm of torque. If you are more than 100kgs then it should undo. The torque for the hub nuts is 490Nm.

Yes, definitely unstaked! It's not a left-hand thread on the LH side, is it?
In any case, I've tee-ed up with the local tyre place to rattle it loose on Friday arvo, then nip it up tight enough for me to drive the 600 m home to have another go at the job this weekend.
