Well. I'm still #$@%$&*$@#$% under the old girl now.

1st learnt. The ONLY combination of tool to get that top 15mm nut out is the middle option. It is nut, really.

2nd. Ok. It still is a pita to get the starter out.

3rd. My biggest problem now is the main battery cable dead stuck and rotate on the side due to that terrible contact inside the solenoid. I don't want to cut this super thick and SUPER SHORT cable. Grrrr.

The inside of the contact is square for a very good reason, You needed to hold that square end with a spanner so that you could undo the nut holding the cable without destroying it

Darn it! I've read this thread. Now I think I'd better get out my spare and do it up, cos of that Murphy bloke. If I do it up, I won't need it.

judging by the way that post is, it looks like you were tightening it , even if not and for future reference, it doesn't matter if you break the post stud when undoing it as you get a new one in the kit, this would save you cutting the lug.
I see lots playing up long before the contact is as bad as that one.............that is cactus

Correct as I could see it is locked by a 15mm spanner, and I tried hard too. However, under the car with an upside-down hanging starter motor that also scared me that it would damage 2 copper pipes on the sideway, and already too hard to put 2 hands doing that job unless I do have 3rd hand. No choice for me.

I took apart today and all look good except brushes are very worn out. Might be rebuild to see if it works well later, in the meantime still urgently need the car back on road.
