Used Denso or New aftermarket starter motor?

Hi all, make it short, I enjoyed the 1st bump start last night 30kms away from home with my D2a and successfully drove her home and dead on driveway now waiting for a new starter motor. Good point is I now know that my D2a is sooo very easy to do bump start.

My question is which way to go? A Used Denso (which I will replace all new parts for the solenoid as I already bought one) or buy New aftermarket starter motor without brands?

Thanks for giving me your thoughts.

Denso, I've been down the aftermarket track and returned to the same as you're considering, s/h Denso.

Why not simply refurbish the one you already have in the D2

Thanks for that. It happened the same on my MAF, trying an aftermarket MAF and it died in 1 day. Then pocket a VDO and very happy since then.

I need the car back on road ASAP, and I can't see this is possible and it is expensive to rebuild the starter motor too I believe

Quite a simple job to replace the brushes, solenoid and the bearings which you should be able to do yourself and not that expensive either.
The biggest job is getting the starter out and back in again which you will have to do regardless of what you decide to either replace or repair the starter.

If you decide to use a second hand starter then there is no guarantee that that one won't die on you as well.

seeing you already have the repair kit, it'll take you 5-10 minutes with it on the bench to fit, even if you just replace the contacts it will be years before you will have to do brushes, bearings etc.
I'm seeing them last 2-3 sets of contacts before having to do brushes and bearings.

Ashdown and Ingram auto electric wholesalers have the parts you need to replace the solenoid parts, some kits on ebay are are not exact fit on the plunger diameter, they are close but not purpose built for the model starter.
