Would be interested if the Hunter one can slow the HDC if it is programmed for it by sending a lower speed to the ECU. Understand that this would still be an Auto SLABS only tweak, but if it could would be a tremendous boon.

It’s purely a signal convertor and ratio controller. But consider driving “thru” the brakes, it puts you in control of your descent rather than rely on a computer, and it is a very satisfying skill to master and use. The ABS does get a real work out and I had my HDC “give up” 2/3rds of the way down Hearn’s Spur Track on the way out of Wonnangatta.diff ratio changeHave never wanted to use it again….

Would certainly spook me too no doubt. Was this the brakes overheating or the ABS unit itself? I do see merit in HDC as a tool but again I bow to users findings especially if the descent cannot be controlled in as slow a fashion to be safe. One of the joys of the D1 manual (especially on the 29's) was engine braking down steep slopes - also think it is a discovery thing that the supple ride gives a certain level of safety with regard to traversing rougher terrain at slightly higher levels of speed, not stupid levels, but a little more.Control is paramount and take your point with mastering skills. In doing the upgrades to the D2 one focus was brake performance, with nearly 3 tonne of mass coming down a steep slope not sure cheap generic ebay brake pads are going to cut the mustard and hence the choice of the yellow stuff pads / slotted discs.

    Slowing HDC

By the way still think it is an interesting question as to whether by modifying the speed signal to SLABs the HDC can be slowed down into tricking it think the vehicle is doing 7 kmh when it is only doing three - some modern HDC can be controlled by the cruise control and tap tap up or down for speed.

I don't think HDC is such a big thing. I've found when things are that slippery that low first has enough engine braking. And if its not that slippery then you can just put your foot on the brake and it stops or the ABS works anyway.
    Cheers

You can't modify the speed signal to SLABS ECU cos it calculates that from all 4 wheel speed sensor inputs, the speed signal convertor is working on the signal delivered by the SLABS

I've also confirmed this info too.
if any previous posts of that type relate to the first generation of the Jaycar unit, my experience is with the second gen unit.
We tried it just before lockdown .. approx mid 2019.

What happened is that the speedo kind'a sort'a worked.
Initially it didn't work, but then reading the idiots guide .. ie., the instructions .. it says that it takes a few minutes to calculating before it will work.
That's exactly what happened. Bro was driving I had the Jaycar corrector still in hand. then suddenly bro called it that speedo started working.
We thought .. this thing works. Then we pulled up to calculate the best ratio value.. and stopped and the speedo didn't. It showed 40k/h while we were stationary for a few minutes. eventually did stop, but did a klm or two in the process.
Not good. Then we took off after a quick flick of the ratio adjustment and speedo didn't work .. then did, then didn't then did ... weird.
Then pulling up again it showed about 20k/h again for a few minutes before finally stopping.

So while it 'does work' .. it really doesn't. And as Slunnie said you try to get it to work the speedo directly and not via the SLABS box, you may have the out of sync odo issue to deal with.

I think it's still in the centre console too.
But now the D2 is mine and I got a C6100 for it.

Bro wasted more money NOT correcting the speedo than had he listened to my advice(carried over to him from this website ) and got himself the C6100 himself. But he ignored and paid more for the privilege of not getting the speedo right.

RRT! .. if you want a speedo corrector now ..... email Hunter, just pay the $207.90(he sends via express post!) and be done with it.
    Arthur.
