Each to their own i guess. No seat cover can do it all, they all have their pros and cons.

Between my dog and myself we are often wet, bedraggled and muddy courtesy of our penchant for being in the bush and along the rivers on wet days and over winter. I found this was too hard on decent seat covers so for a long time now I buy those very cheap woolly looking synthetic covers - say $30 a pair sort of thing from SC. They get a couple of washes but after one year of wash and use they are no longer woolly and no longer hold their shape. So it's in the bin and go buy another pair.

    Home-made Seat Covers

My D2a has fabric upholstery, which is still in superb condition (probably due to the previous owner fitting covers).

I've had the vehicle for 7 years, and the seats still look like new.

I have only ever bothered with any kind of cover for the two front seats (our kids have gone, and we seldom carry passengers).
The main aim is to prevent the seat upholstery being affected by perspiration, dust, and general grime.
I used good quality beach towels, pulled to shape around the seats and fastened with large safety pins.
Parts of the towels were trimmed off where they were bigger than required, and to fit to the shape of the seats.

They can very easily be removed and washed (or completely replaced, at minimal cost).
The towels don't even need to be brand new - previously-used ones are quite OK for this purpose.

PS: Oh, and I live in Perth, not in Toorak
