    Ball Joint Boot Sizes

Just spent another lovely couple of hours trying to find what should be relatively simple to find, replacement boot sizes for the ball joints (my ball joints are are aok just cracking in the boot)

Commercial Ball Joint Dust Boot 3 excellent quality, supple and easily fitted.

Ball Joint Boots, Replacement Ball Joint Boots, excellent quality, supple and easily fitted.

Hope this saves some other poor soul, if these sizes dont fit, will tell you so!!!!!!

    WHAT A FUN DAY!

Got boots from Repco and they worked, not perfect fits but successfully on and sealed. Actual job took about 4.5 hours, most of this time was bashing the steering carrier to get the ball joints loose, if we had a separator would have only been about a two hour job. The hubs were pulled using a puller.

The Tie Rod / Ball Joint Boot Kits used were the Te6 and TE4 which were the closet to the sizes given on the web pages, about $30 for both.

Lucky to see that the ball joints still had grease insitu and were seemingly perfect. Also replaced the steering tie rod assembly (Lemforder) and interestingly did not have to adjust the length at all.

    I gave up on mine.
I had a separator which broke, I bashed and bashed and got the top one loose but the bottom one would not move.

the only way would be to use a pitch fork, but by doing that you will destroy the balljoint so I made up some boots from strips of tube and garden wire.
At 222KK they are still tight and I fill the joints each 5KK or so with a grease syringe.
Just alerting not to use a pitchfork as you risk destroying the joint.

I’ve decided to just pay the $$ to get a good local mob to replace all 4 ball joints.

I recon $795 for replacing all 4 is not too bad after 18 years and 340 K km.
    Cheers

Absolutely Philip, the bottom joint was the difficult one. Top ones took only about 5-10 minutes each, the bottom ones, arrrggggghhhh.

Simon would certainly not try and replace these myself after the reading up and just getting the covers changed. Though with the right tools and experience, $200 for the ball joints or so, that is a big whack for the labour which I reckon would be about 3 hours at most...
