    Rear Head Rest - Fix

Took out the rear head rest today, Pulled off the top trim, it actually made a lot of noise and was sure I was going to break it then simply two 8mm bolts at the top of the head rest and a 4mm square (?) under the outer door seal. Then the fun began...

The handle was not working, just loose and ineffectual and as I am planning on installing some speakers on the plastic side for camp side music (put the head rests down and then the speakers are facing out) it was considered a job that had to be done.

Well, tried the old google search, zip nothing and youtube, even less. Got out the workshop manual, yes the D2 does have third row headrests, thanks for that.

Trying the obvious, pull the leather covered foam from the plastic backing plate, no, no, no, try and pull harder all around the plastic and it was NO.

With considerable force, could lift up the middle part of the leather backed foam and saw some barbs poking through. Long nosed pliers and squeeze and yes it moved, but when trying the other side, the previous one went straight back in. So after figuring that there was a cord going around the inside of the leather cover, had no option but to cut it, agggghhh, easy peasy.

Would suggest that if this happens that your handle breaks and is loose, and ,you are not worried by the aesthetic , get the dremel out and cut the handle out and you will see the threaded attachment and easily be able to manipulate the headrest up and down. Am looking for a knob now that I can screw onto the thread and use this, if I cant find one will just use the threaded attachment.

Once apart the attachment point of the cord was seen, you've got to believe that this was blind to me lol, and knowing that now, when I take apart the second one apart to put the speaker in, thinking the long nosed pliers would be able to reach and release this cord and then it becomes an easy job.

By the way, You can see above the top of the speaker the threaded 'bolt' where I plan to put a handle
