PhilipA, your idea of handbrake shoes against the backing plate makes sense so definitely something I'll look into first. The rev range the vibration is noticeable at is between 1750 and 2250, with 2100 probably being the worst. When idling in drive the vibrations are there but when in neutral they are not.
I'll look at engine mounts too.
My theory of the hi-lo maps being mixed up was just an idea because the ECU reads that it is in lo when it is in both hi and lo – could this be a possibility? The gear changes and fuelling just don't seem right unless it's in lockup. Is there a way I can make sure that the ECU will only use the hi range fuel map? ie. is there a wire I can pull from the ECU plug (or anywhere) to disable a lo range map? Purely for a diagnosis.
