I am amazed at the strenth of the belt that remains visually unmarked even though it stalled the engine and twisted the front cover of the bearing out of shape. Looks like a good spare.

Fan came off quite easily with the shiny Toledo spanner and some hardware jammed between the clutch bolts to anchor it. And an extension tube over the hardware for a bit of help.
With all that space to move about in the bottom pulley has a little movement when I stress it but I think, hope, that should be fine.
    At least it doesn't wobble.

Fan and bearing installed but she would not start. Tried the usual superlock/unlock on the fob, still no go, turning over but not firing. Nanocom said "unable to connect with ECU"
Tried again a few times and she fired up, a bit rough then settled and purring.
    Why should this happen?
Does anyone else have the mystery "Fail To Start" which fixes itself after a few lock/unlock procedures?
Used to happen regularly after a long run and a short break, but not for a while now.
With the new spanner it should now be a doddle to remove the fan. Clutch holder not necessary. Pity the spanner doesn't fit the towball.
Always good to be back on the road!

Update: Again no start. I've been through all the usual checks. Nanocom "Unable to start communication with ECU"
Dashboard lights normal, except red coolant overheat light sometimes on as I turn her over. Engine spins but won't fire.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

Sounds almost like oil in the loom… Unplugged the ECU to check if it has oil in it? The two issues may not be connected- or the ecu disconnected by oil caused a jolt that was the last straw for the idler?

Thanks Davros. Interesting theory and I have no idea where to start but it's night time and a rainstorm so I can do some research overnight and have a poke around tomorrow. I think the idler had been on the way out for a year or more. I had not been able to identify the odd sound. All makes sense now. My bad for for not being more dilligent.
Over the years heard all this talk about oily looms and never followed it up.
    Thanks for the suggestion.

Can you hear the fuel pump working?

If not, try the fuel cut off switch on the passengers side firewall. Push up from the bottom of the switch to reset.

I had issues the first time I removed the fan. The printed workshop manual(LDV100090) says the 'nut' for the fan assembly is LH thread. I notice RAVE has it
'highlighted' in green print that it is RH thread!

Trying to tap it off the wrong way set off the fuel cut off switch.

A quick call to Kevin at Rovertech set me straight and the fan came off no problems after that..

    Goodluck...

I'd take a guess you've bumped the ECU fiddling around with the engine and dislodged a connector. Try re-seating them back into the ECU when checking for oil.

Well, no sound from the fuel pump. That gizmo on the passenger side firewall, round with a rubbery flat top....... that's the fuel cut off? Have not found how to reset it by pressing from underneath. Am i in the right place?

The loom is wet and oily and so is the bottom of the box the ECU sits in. If oil's got in there is it RS?

Can I do any harm with degreaser, water jet and air blast to dry it out?

Looks like I'm up fro a loom but would like get it running again while I wait.

Not water, some have pulled ecu apart and cleaned out, I’m pretty sure there is a write up somewhere, normally just spray and leave standing on edge so it drips out. I reckon there a few posts on here with how to’s .
    Regards Rob
