Hi All,
I have a 1999 Discovery 2 Td5, just crossed 300,000km and could do with some new suspension.
I have bought a set of front and rear standard height King Springs (KRFS-06 and KRRS-04), as I'm not after a lift, and planned to buy some Bilstein shock absorbers (BE5-6046 and BE5-6047), but every place I have contacted carries no stock despite websites claiming otherwise.
I can't find any genuine shock absorbers in stock anywhere, and now I'm wondering what to look at next.
Does anyone have recommendations on what I should be looking for in new shocks? I'm not planning on taking the vehicle offroad too much, it will be onroad 90% of the time. I have an ARB bar with no winch, sidesteps, and run no load - light load most of the time, and rarely tow.
Just about every brand I can find, like EFS, Tough Dog, Monroe, and KYB seem to get absolutely thrashed in reviews, and I don't know what to look at any more.
While we're on the suspension topic, any suggestions for a new steering dampener?
Please let me know what you think!

Nanocom, D2 TD5 only.
Bilsteins, Koni's or stock are probably the best 3 options.
I wouldn't guess in which order though!
I run Bilstein in the back of one, but one started leaking so I bought another a month ago.. Only to be told the next day that "the warehouse didn't have any".
I must say that's super frustrating, I understand with the way businesses work online that it can happen, but you know what... I'm in business as well, and we have this archaic policy of not selling stuff we don't own, funnily enough customers approve... Simply not good enough.
Cheers
James

Good grief people - it’s a road runner.
Monroe’s, Factory shocks or OMEmu would be perfect.
Hey mate,
I’ve got a 2003td5 D2 and I’ve clocked over 321000klms on the original shocks and was thinking the same thing (to replace the shocks)
I ended up purchasing a full set of terrafirma shocks, they were not too hard to find and also not too expensive at under a couple of hundred dollars for each pair!
I got a pair of tf119 (fronts) and tf118(rears)
Apparently they can cater for 2inch travel if u were looking at lifting at later date?
I haven’t had time to put them on yet but hoping to have them in during the Xmas break 🤞
Hopefully it’s not too big of a job 😝
Hope this helps
Cheers for Xmas all
Thanks for the help, everyone!
I will end up waiting for the Bilstein shocks, I'm not planning on driving too much over the break, so the supply chain may become a little stronger in January. If I'm in a pinch, it's good to know brands like Terrafirma are still available.
That's what my old Series 3 is for! When I'm finished with it, that is...
TF is available because it’s junk.![]()
