What would be the likely cause of this damage?

At a guess overheat possible but more likely some missed oil changes (unless the OP has had it since new and did the changes). Cheers

Thanks mate .... just tried Mick Cashell on a few different numbers but all not connected ? the ebay link had no piston sets for Landrover and there store had non listed either ? those items listed were brake pistons ... but thanks hey :- )

Maybe the old Street Front Premises in Queensland in future may need to be on the 14th floor & customers could call in by boat?
