Making the disco a 4 seater?

Hi guys. I'd like to know if you can take out the two part bench and make that a 4 seater. With the fridge going in the middle. We are a family of 4 and not going to get any bigger. Is it possible? This car is my toy but also the family camper/tourer.

Can't see any reason why not, but the modification would have to be signed off by an engineer and blue plated.
An unthought of repercussion may be the inability to fold the seats down.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The fridge in the middle, and, I am assuming that the fridge is going to used for camping, will make it very difficult to load and unload. Essentially you would have to climb in, sit down and unload from this position.

Would have thought that removing the single seat and using this space would make more sense as it put the fridge at the door. You do lose the two kids at the windows I understand but the view from the middle seat is pretty good as to see the road ahead.

Not with two child seats no. It's actually a small fridge that will be used for this, not the main. Mainly to keep drinks cool whilst out on the tracks or long drives.

Leave the seats as they are and simply put the small fridge on the floor behind the centre console, The K.I.S.S principle is usually the best way

Why not rip out the entire middle row and just fit the two rear fold ups?

Heaps more room for the kids and they're further away. This is always good.

The fold up seats are way more comfortable as well.

Ive done this to mine, its good. Not sure about the legal of fitting the third row to a five seater though.

    Smile 3 seat disco

    hi
already done and blue plated my D2A . tookout the double rear as there is only 2 of us . single still folds fwd to make more room behind the 35waco fridge.plenty of room left . built a shelf and used the original bolt holes to secure . 2nd battery goes on the shelf in a distribution box so all internal aux items , eg radio, gps etc run from this battery.tools go under the shelf.

Have you seen this thread proposing an alternative approach to cooling drinks (or heating food) using a unit mounted in the centre arm rest compartment?
That way you can leave the seats the way they are, keep the kids happy, avoid having to deal with mounting / securing a large portable fridge unit etc....

My understanding of the legality is that any seating changes from ADR must be "temporary".
That is you must leave the seat belts and mounts in place but can take out a seat "temporarily" ie able to be restored quickly.
I took out both back seats (not third row which I don't have), for my round Australia trip but left the seat belts in place after studying the rules.
    Regards PhilipA

i was a bit concerned about the legal aspects when I did mine,
but to me this mod wont void any insurance or cause any issues as long as there's not an extra bum on board with nowhere to sit.
It's not like fitting oversize tyres without engineering.

most cops probably wouldn't care?? rego inspections would be an issue though.
