Thread: D2 TAILGATE HANDLE COVER

Busted the cover on the back door handle, temporarily glued together but its a definite replacement job, big hole right in the middle over the handle itself an to many shards to fix it.

Found this on fleabay, is this a Landynut item and does anyone know if they're any good?

I'm just more concerned about sealing up the handle entry point so water doesn't leak past and get thru the handle opening. Nothing a bead of silicone couldnt fix either I guess.

The rubber seal for the handle isn't affected.
It's the rubber 'backing' gasket that doesn't fit 'easily'.
In my instance ... at all, and I couldn't be stuffed trying. My rubber gasket was in very good condition so thrown into the spares box.

Also keep in mind the difference in how they fit compared to the original.
Original allows you to remove/fit the handle and or cover as separate items .. and the plastic cover is an open back type to allow this .. hence needs the rubber gasket.
There is also a rubber flappy opening on the door to stop dust/water stuff(keep this in mind).

The fibreglass design is solid backed ... hence maybe why it felt more solid than the original as said in my description in the other thread ... so the need for a gasket isn't so important, as the rubber seal on the door opening does the majority of the work there.

When fitting the handle back onto the car, the rubber seal on the door was a a slight issue in that as I tried to wriggle and writhe the lever of the door handle back through, I didnt' remove the plastic locking clip on the end of the lever(that secures the opening rod to the door lock) .. it must have been a loose fit, because when the lever went through the rubber seal flaps on the door knocked the plastic retainer off and it landed in the nether regions of another dimension! without it, you may as well be in the nether regions of the same dimension(or any other) .. door is useless without it.
Of course the locks and mechanism on the spares hulk has been removed too .. so now I'm fretting like crazy .. I'm sure the plastic retainer ended up inside the door itself, and access in there is next to zero.
But, on the spares car, I found that off a passenger/drivers door, the retainer clip for the opening lever is the same fit .. and I had one left

I recommend remove the retainer clip so you know where it is at all times.
