TD5 injector seals and rising oil level, again. 16P

    Hi guys,

Several months back I had the head off the TD5 following cooling system pressurisation. It was checked by a machinist and refitted.

All was fine for months, until the oil level started to rise. I replaced the injector seals and noted the replacements were visibly fatter than what had been supplied in the VRS set. Seemed positive.

The rising oil level continued. Rather than condemn the head, I put some UV dye in the fuel filter and primed it with the valve cover off, which narrowed it down to number 3. Wondering whether the injector was somehow leaking, I fitted a spare I had to hand, with new seal. The dye is less prevalent but it’s still there.

Two of us checked for cracks visibly and with UV light, but couldn’t see anything.

Before committing to a new head, am I missing something? It is a 16P and cyl 3 is afflicted, which seems rather unusual from what I’ve read.

Oil dilution is not injector seals but is the orings at the top of the injector leaking.
make sure you have the oring in the correct groove.

That causes a fountain, not a leak!

    Update - cracked.

has anyone tried out the new Chinese heads? They appear to have the strengthened ports as per the AMC heads…. And I have read somewhere the AMC heads are cast in China anyway?

I'm pretty sure the AMC heads are cast and manufactured in Spain rather than China. AMC is a pretty big complete inhouse manufacturer. They're sold via Turners Engineering in the UK, others will resell also.

I'm really not sure about the Chinese heads, but you know that AMC heads are quality and are reliable - ie do it once.

    OUCH!
I am sure that someone a while ago posted the name of an Australian agent for the Spanish heads.
