    Td5. Will only Idle

I have had what seemed a small issue for a couple of weeks that I had not got around to checking.

To describe the problem, it was a bit like a flat spot that you would get with an old carby engine car.

When accelerating there would sometimes be like a minute pause. It was like the key was turned off and then on again, but only for a few milliseconds.

It is very intermittent and only happens occasionally.

However, what happened today was a lot worse but I feel it is related.

I was driving along and it suddenly coughed and spluttered (again to describe it, it was very much like a carby engine when running out of fuel)
and then lost all power. It was idling perfect, but when I pushed the loud pedal nothing happened. It was like the accelerator cable had broken on a non drive by wire vehicle.

The Mil light had come on and the M & S lights were flashing. I plugged Nanocom in and all I got was "Driver Demand Problem"

I cleared the fault but it did not fix the problem. I switched off the engine and restarted it. All seemed ok. Mil light and M & S had all gone out and it drove off ok.

However, not far down the road it started spluttering again albeit with no warning lights coming on. It would run fine for a bit and do it again.

I was only about a Kay from home so I got it there. I thought I had read and came across every known issue with Td5, but not this one.

    Any ideas people?
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

    What year is your car?

Are you running an MSB or NNN ECU?

    Regardless of that...

Plug the nano back in, go to the TD5 instruments screens, go to throttle and make sure all the tracks are working.

So track 1 should go from around 0.7 volts then Upwards and track 2 should start at about 4.3 volts then drop as the throttle is pushed down..

Do all tests with engine off, ignition on.

Actually post the log if you can!

Driver demand SHOULD be throttle.. But not always unfortunately.

    Cheers
    James

    Thanks James. I will check.

V8 Ian. Symptoms are fuel pumpish, however I don't think the warning lights that I got would have come on with fuel pump.

And I can hear it running.

Track 1 No pedal .829 Full throttle 3.997

    Track 2 4.231 1.177

    Track 3 4.657 1.080

Track 1 & 2 almost on the money. James you did not mention track 3

Correct, I did not, that's because I didn't know what version ECU and throttle you had!

This is roughly what a healthy 3 track should look like:

    It does... But.....

Driver demand error and the fault you described is very "throttle sounding."

Can you remember the code for the error?

If it happens again, plug in the nano and get the track readings before turning the car off.

Not a split turbo to intercooler hose or delaminated inside the hose?

No. I put a new second hand engine in about 3000 k ago.

I put all new coolant and turbo hoses in at the time.
