    Front door strap repair

The door bracket in the pillar had come loose and opening and closing made a horrible click/clunk sound. Mate managed to get his welder in there with door on. Will see how long it holds and then might try a door off repair I had in mind.

    Nice wee win today though.

LOL! my v8 project is also afflicted with the same issue. Driver door bracket snapped off the pillar.
It is a project car, needs a motor first, but have to also sort that out too .. although it is nicer being able to open the door properly too(compared to a fixed one).

Mine also clunk/clicks. I need, some how to drill out both door and car body holes out and insert a pin that fits tightly.

Before I had a Land Rover I did not have any torque wrenches. Now I have three.

The clunk is almost certainly due to the spring loaded jaws on the inside of the check strap, that holds the door in position.
I've pulled a couple of mine apart, and pretty much junked. New ones are needed ... that is no advantage in attempting a repair on them. And the clunk is the spring moving about in the housing. I tried lubing the internals to no avail.
I'm on the hunt for any non LR types that could be used as replacements .. one reason is hard to get them for the D2 nowadays anyhow, but also I'd like to get ever so slightly longer straps for the rears to get the doors to open just a few inches more.

So is your roll pin worn, or the holes it jams into worn? Why drill them out more?

The pin is AWOL. The holes are worn.

On my D1 the pin has gone AWOL.

I haven't bothered replacing it as I find the extra amount the door opens handy.

Been like it for about two years.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Mine broke, but now it's been made to have a longer door strap to give me extra room fir my wheelchair. I have small dent from the time it broke thougg to being fitted with longer strap as the door would hit the front guard edge. Took me a while to work out where the littkr dent had come from Front door strap repair

Mine does the same the loud bang of the spring. I've tried drilling out both parts to fit a larger roll pin but the steel is incredibly hard on the strap so couldn't make a dent in it with my drill bits.
