what code reader does your mate have(if you can remember).
You can buy yourself a cheapo($20ish) wireless OBDII transmitter connect via bluetooth to your phone(eg. with Torque app) and it will at least get you some codes to work off.
OBD readers on this era LR isn't as effective a diagnostic tool, as a nanocom will be, but nanocom is an expensive item.
It will give you the most accurate troubleshooting info tho, and then a bit more stuff to muck around with on the vehicle too that many OBD tools wont.
In terms of your issue tho, I reckon it could be a lot more possibilities as to what's causing the problem .. than those you listed.
CPS(crank sensor) seems to be the most likely culprit with no other info .. started to fail first then just died ... can happen.
I wouldn't change it based on guesswork tho ... as said, it could be so many other issues .. too much to detail them all.
as example ... could be failing fuel pump, or iffy(and now dead) relay to it .. or whatever. Can you hear the fuel pump running on IGN posi #2(just before starter)?
Arthur.
All these discos are giving me a heart attack!
