    rear light leaky

The rear light on a mates car has a crack and water gets in. The silver/chrome on the inside has corroded away. Is there a way of taking the coloured part off and re silvering the back?
There are a couple of options for the re silvering, getting the unit apart is the main issue?

I would suggest that a second hand one would be cheaper and easier.

    Assuming D2 ?

    I'd advise no!

I have a spare unit and heat is usually your friend, and with heat the lens does come off the rear body, but at the expense of distorting the rear body.

Comes down to how good your plastic working skills are ... unless you're a plastic repair guru .. not worth the effort.

You can find good S/H units for about $100 for D2, brand new I've seen as low as low 200's, but generally up to $300.

    if it's a D2a ... good luck finding them.

Exactly. I was thinking a multi tool (pop saw) to cut it off. the glue with silastic or similar

I don't like your chances of success, although not impossible.
I'd say you'd have to operate on the solid red plastic rear body section, as it's a bit more pliable and leave the lens and bolt hole sections alone.

As a temporary fix for the crack which caused the problem i can recommend this kind of kit https://www.amazon.com/Qiilu-Repair-...76V7DY7G&psc=1 ...there are various versions on the market, i'm sure australian too, e.g. Auto Lens Repair Tape - Red | Supercheap Auto . I made a "temporary" fix on mine with this type which i bought locally about 3 years ago and it's still OK
