    window regulator motor

Hi all today I wound my drivers side window down when it got to the bottom the motor didn't stop just made a clicking sound I couldn't wind the window back up.
When I removed the inner door cover the nylon rollers seemed ok if I pushed the window up as I pushed the button on the console the window went up. I can now wind the window up and down but if I use the auto down the window goes all the way down and the motor just starts clicking there is no noise if I don't wind the window all the way down. Any suggestions on what could of gone wrong would be of great help.
    Thanks Phil.

Hi. If it's clicking means that plastic gear might be worn and turns over when the window is down cos on automatic mode the BCU cuts the motor's feed when it detects high current draw like when you lock the shaft of the motor, as it can turn over the current doesnt get high enough to trigger the BCU...unless it's the worst scenario and the BCU has an issue on that circuit for the down function(quite unlikely). You'll have to remove the motor, switch to continuous down and lock the gear with something to see if the voltage is cut or not, if the voltage is cut the problem is at the gear at the motor or regulator side.

here's the description from the manual:

"The front windows are powered by electric motors located in each front door. The window
up/down functions are controlled by reversing the polarity to the motors. The BCU logic
circuits have a stall detect function that monitors the current drawn by the window motor.
When the window contacts the top of the door frame, goes completely down or or there is an obstruction the current drawn by the electric motor rises. If the BCU detects a sudden current rise the internal logic will
remove the power supply to the front window motor"....

    Hey Phil,

I jad a similar issue and fixed it by mounting a steel (sprayed so no rust) bar wrapped in foam across the bottom of the door (inside).

Mine was travelling down too far and the regulator over extended.

Worth taking the trim off to see if you have a similar issue.

While i was there i noticed the glass came off the now rusted metal mount which is suppossed to be bonded to it.
    I re-glued it back on.

I've done same as Rohaan in years past. Used either a piece of rubber(like a block) or packing foam(not styrofoam) in the bottom of the door, trimmed to an appropriate height, just to limit the last few millimeters of travel to stop the same issue.

ideally, you want to replace the arm mechanisms, as it could be a bit of wear or warping that has put the last few gear teeth out of alignment.

I had a similar problem, the motor gear had chewed into the regulator arm. I had a mate weld a bead up on the chewed up part. Works well now.
