Thread: Help! Weird almost knocking noise only while starting/turning over

The noise is only while I turn the car over, it's definitely taking longer to start maybe 5/10sec.
Its a knocking noise sounds like from the trans tunnel.

Once it starts its normal nothing new inside the cabin as far as I can hear.

Hoping someone has advise/experience with this.

Any ideas?

TD5 starts instantly, no idea about the noise

Are the starter motor bolts loose?

Manual or auto?

It's a auto, mate.

It's a td5, yea normally starts instantly. But jumped in the old girl this morning to head to work and had this nasty surprise

could just be an exhaust hanger that's gone south, the downpipe is pretty close to the block.
Get under the car and give the exhaust system a wriggle. You'll soon know either way.

the lack of instant start is a concern though.

Coolant at normal level? No sign of hesitation to turn over?
Why I ask - mine got a head gasket leak that would (I believe) weep into a cylinder at rest, then the extra compression would stop the starter turning the engine over easily. Other symptom was the cooling system slowly pressuring then blowing out coolant from the overflow on a trip…

Maybe also check the injector wiring loom plug front right of head for oil… and where it connects to the ECU.
Can be fouled and then causes misses and poor fuelling etc

Hmm lastly- oil light going out fast/pressure good?
