    Pinhole in top hose

Drove to a training course today and found steam coming out from under the bonnet when I got there (50km).
Quick inspection I found a pinhole in the joint of the tophose to the right if the bleed screw area.
Temp gauge was ok and the water level in the tank seems almost normal so I don't think it was doing it long.
Any ideas for a temporary fix to get my TD5 Disco 2 home later?

    Cheers

+1 on the Silicone tape. I keep a roll in every car.

Better results if you can clean the hose with alcohol to degrease it before application. Stretch it as it goes on as the tension assists the self-amalgamation.

It's very much a "get you home" repair, but unless the leak is catastrophic it'll get you home.

When I travel I keep 2" lengths of various copper pipe (usually, 3/16, 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 & 3/4) and worm drive hose clamps in the tool kit. I did a cut and shut on one of the EGR cooler pipes in the D3 that stayed in place for 3 years before I got around to replacing the hose.

Loosen header tank cap a couple of turns so it does not pressurise the system. Keep and eye on the temp but should be fine.

That was a favourite “trick” of my uncle, pierce the top hose with a pin before people went away on a long trip. (He wasn’t a nice man)

Cheers for all the replies, I couldn't get to Supercheap before it shut and started worrying that i wouldn't make to journey home with the Brisbane traffic so have opted to go the safe route of getting a tow.

As a slight aside, I recently had a lower hose delaminate and split, the top hose was also new as the bleed screw has snapped off. Is it likely I had a faulty (genuine LR I think) hose or could something be pressurising the system to much and blowing the hoses? Should I consider replacing all with a silicone set off eBay?

    Thanks again!

    Pin hole in hose

Have had similar situation on other hoses.
Did have some silicone tape but perhaps any tape might assist (if clamped), but also had a worm drive hose clip that I put over the tape over the hole and tightened without crushing hose, that at least got me home.
