With 346K on tne clock the alternator would be the least of your concerns on a nearly 20 year old 4WD.

I do all my own, I'll still rebuild them, but for someone that has to pay, you really need to replace all the parts so you don't go back in, and then you'll be up for basically new money.
If rebuilding it would pay to change:
Both bearings.
Brushes.
Reg.
Probably the rectifier.
Vac pump Seal, and check the vac pump for inHg reading before re use.
And check the slip rings.
Price all that up, it'll be more than you think unfortunately.
