    Cold air at passenger footwell

This is a problem that’s been bothering me for the thirteen years I’ve had this vehicle. On a cold day, there is a very noticeable cold waft of air at the left side of the passenger footwell. This is even with the heater blowing hot air into the right side.
Strangely, in very wet conditions there is no moisture getting in.
Looking for tips as to where this air is coming from, if anyone has any ideas.
    Cheers all.

    Hi,

I know the answer to this one. 10 years ago when travelling during a mouse plague we had mice getting into our car eating our food and were stumped for ages! Also yes air coming in no matter what the hvac settings were on.

The cause is the rod/lever connected to the flap that controls recirc and fresh air is loose.

So the flap is stuck partly open - halfway between recirc and fresh position.

So air comes in from the outside and makes its normal way into the cabin. Even if the hvac is set to recirc.

Mine has come loose again so I’ll see if I can take some photos with how to fix. It’s a matter of removing the carboardy cover thing above the passenger footwell to get access to the flap control lever and re secure the lever onto the flap control shaft.
    Cheers

Ok, to gain access to the hvac recirc motor, actuator rod and flap:

    1. Remove cardboard cover above passenger footwell.

    2. Remove glovebox

    3. You see the recirc flap behind the grille as per photo.

    4. Turn on ignition, hvac on, and press recirc switch

    5. you’ll see the motor on Lh side of the flap, rotate a white cam thing which then pushes/ pull a rod to open and close the flap.

    6. See what’s wrong- the rod may have come off the cam or the cam may be loose on the motor shaft.

Will try and post a pic and video later.
    Cheers

When the HVAC is working properly and with the temps set to hot, warm air should come out of selected vent regardless of whether you select fresh or recirculate.

So just because the recirc/fresh flap is halfway, how would this bring cold air to one side only.

It sounds to me like the LH blend door is stuck on cold.

Well, I’m confused now. I do have hot air coming out of the vent on the right side of the passenger footwell, but this cold seems to be coming from the left side where the SLABS ECU is.

When you select the option for air at floor level, the air comes out at the front of the centre console, each side of the transmission tunnel.

Locate the spot where the warm air is coming from the right. Is the cold air coming from the same place on the other side? Or is it coming from elsewhere?

    Hvac.jpg

Where I have circled in red is where floor air comes out. Is this where your cold air is coming from?

Number 5 on the list is the air supply control to the heating/cooling air distribution box. When fresh is selected, outside air is sucked into the top of this unit.

When recirculate is selected cabin air is sucked from the bottom.. So regardless of where the air comes from it then passes through to number 6, heater assembly.

In the heater assembly some air will go through the heater core and some will bypass the the heater core, to be mixed downstream to supply selected air temp.

This is controlled by what is called the blend door. In this system there must be two blend doors, one for each side.
