Dt5? Did you mean Td5?
Trying to get my repaired D2/Dt5 started- battery, fuel pump and starter motor all work. Follow the fuel purge procedure to get air out the line. Fuel being delivered to the motor but still no start. Spoke to old school diesel mechanic ( Cummins, Cat et al) yesterday he asked specifically if I had bled the injectors...is that a consideration with Dt5? Surely that would happen with the fuel purge procedure with a common rail...? We'd had the injectors out of the motor when we replaced the head, and they went back in the correct order and had new o rings and copper washers. Thoughts?

It just takes ages, far far longer than what you would expect and a whole heap of cycles to do it.
You dont need to bleed each injector - thats old school tech, this engine is not the same as that and it's not common rail either. They are what are called unit injectors. You cant even do it on these engines.
Without really knowing, It's like the difficulty has more to do with getting fuel through the injectors rather than to the injectors.
Purge
1. Turn the ignition switch off and wait 15
seconds.
2. Turn the ignition switch to position II and wait 3
minutes (this ensures that the fuel system
purges all the air from the fuel rail within the
cylinder head).
3. Fully depress the throttle pedal.
4. Keeping the throttle pedal fully depressed,
crank the engine.
5. As soon as engine speed exceeds 600 rev/min,
release the throttle pedal and the ignition
switch. The engine must not be cranked
continuously for more than 30 seconds at
any one time.
6. If the engine fails to start, repeat the above
procedure.

Measure the voltage on the battery while cranking to make sure it's not a low voltage issue. It can happily spin while the voltage drops below 10.5V then it will hardly start cos the ECU has not enough power to fully open the injectors.
Discovery Td5 (2000), manual, tuned
The bleed procedure i do is
Turn the key to position II
Press the throttle 5 times really fast
Then the engine light will come on to say it worked and the fuel pump will run through its cycles

Fuel lines right way round on the fuel regulator block?
This might sound odd, but I had similar symptoms which was actually solved by replacing the little plasic non-return valve on top of fuel filter...
by memory it was about a $10 part. still needed to bleed thru a few times - like 3 or 4 purge cycles, but never had an issue since. doesn't look like it does much, but made one hell of a difference with a new one
Silly question, have you checked or tried resetting the inertia switch that is located on the fire wall?
As per previous post and from experience. The battery needs to be in top condition for it to start,
