    Transfer Case Sump Gasket

    G'day All,
Father in laws D2a TD5 has oil leaking around his transfer case and feeling around it seems it's coming from the sump gasket .can anyone tell me if there is a gasket there or are they seeled with gasket maker or gasket goo .
I have looked on line but the only thing I seem to be able to find is a full kit of gaskets and seals to overhaul the TC.
    Thanks and cheers Bulletman

Use RTV and it's probably leaking from the intermediate shaft

Get it sleeved the case to fix it

Sleeving the case is a pretty simple machining job, but requires the case to be completely stripped to do it.
Ashcroft has bushes on the shelf, any reasonable machine shop could machine the case to suit the Ashcroft bush and fit it, or they could just turn up a bush themselves then fit it.

I took my 2 stripped transfer cases with an intermediate shaft and Ashcroft sleeves to an engine builder in Scoresby (a South East Melbourne suburb). They were happy to do something different to their normal work. I originally approached some gearbox and transmission repair work shops but anything that needs machining they tend to send out anyway.

Both D2's that I've got here have looked to have transfer case leaks but on closer inspection and strip down it's been a leak at the rear output housing. The first was through the RTV silicone between housing and casing, the second was broken studs for the damper weight. I've replaced the bearing, seal, felt washer, flange and dust shield on both as part of rectification.
