Now there ya go! ….. re water ingress in the U/Js, what you wrote has always been my thinking.
On the other hand I know a bloke who has had 5 (count em) 5 driveshafts in about 3-4 years.
When I looked at them they all had the front double cardan UJ gone. My front double cardan UJ went even though greased regularly.
In fact I bought one from him for 50 bucks and fitted a new UJ.
    Guess what. No drain.

About 1 year ago, I was doing a Uturn and heard a slight noise and sure enough it was the UJ.

Wouldn't that tell you it made no difference?

It's difficult to "count em" if i can't see "em"

5 shafts in 3-4 years?, you really shouldn't have built them for him... poor guy

I didn't. AFAIK they were new or professionally rebuilt.
The one I bought from him had been rebuilt 6 months before by a Driveshaft company who would not accept warranty on it. It does have a lovely sticker on it.
I nagged him to fit drains and I think he has now.
