Misfire Mystery - Possible O2 Sensor Issue - Opinions Sought

    Good morning all

On Christmas Eve my 2001 v8 petrol Disco 2 started misfiring.

I inspected the sparkplugs and found most to be carbon fouled. Replaced them which fixed the misfiring, but based on the smell of the exhaust it seemed to still be running rich.

I did a further 600km (approx.) of driving before the misfiring returned.

    I've run an OBD2 scanner (a very basic one) which returned the following fault codes: P1319, P1174, P0171, P1129, P0174, P0154 and P0130.

Based on those fault codes, it appears its a fuel-mix issue that could be caused by a faulty pre-cat O2 sensor which, in turn, is fouling the plugs.

I've read here and on other forums that O2 sensors in these things can be finicky. Indeed, my experience with O2 sensors on a VW Golf (part of my dark past - apologies) was the same.

    My questions are:

    1. as there are 2 upstreams, what is the best approach for determining which O2 sensor is faulty (if any)?

    2. are Bosch O2 sensors a reliable replacement?

    3. are the fault codes and misfiring experienced symptomatic of any other issues at play?

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

You need to get hold of a Nanocom or similar and check Fuel Trim and O2 sensor sensitivity (values should constantly vary between 0.00 and 1.00). Reset Adaptive Values must be done after a sensor replacement.
I replaced one with a OEM part a few years ago at half the price of the identical genuine version. Good luck.
