    D2a Td5 power issue

The td5 in D2a has had some power issues for a long time, but its finally got to me enough that I want to spend some time and fix it.
I know its probably a case of going through and doing some logical fault-finding of sensors etc, but hoping someone may have had a similar issue or is familiar enough with them to suggest a good starting point.

    So, the situation.
Firstly - its an auto. EGR deleted, but other than that is stock. No re-map etc.
Had a new injector loom a couple of years ago.
I've got a Nanocom for troubleshooting.

From standstill its a lethargic slug until it comes on boost then it pulls reasonably well from just over 2000rpm until it changes up. That's pretty normal AFAIK, so not an issue as such.
Sometimes when accelerating, it pulls well, upshifts and when the revs drop back (low 2000's) it feels like its just gone flat. I'd describe it as feeling like it does before it comes on boost. You can keep the throttle the same, it upshifts, and then it just bogs down and won't keep accelerating. Can happen in any upshift, but its not consistent.
If you force it to downshift either with throttle or gear selector it still doesn't have normal power, but then after a few seconds builds up and you're off!
Another upshift and it may be normal or it may repeat the lack of power.
Similar issue - I can get the power issue when cruising along - put your foot down normally to accelerate and its like nothing happens.
Force it to downshift and its hit and miss whether it improves immediately with the downshift, or needs a few seconds to come right.
Basically means I don't risk overtaking unless I've got a couple of k's clear road ahead.

I'm occasionally seeing a driver demand fault, and a very intermittent crank sensor fault. I can't recall the exact codes but will note them down next time I see them.
Neither seem to be directly related to the behaviour above - ie I can experience the power issue but no fault logged.

Any suggestions on where to start??

The first and best suggestion is to post a log from the TD5 instruments screen!

Thanks Shack. I've never logged the instrument screen before, but looks like its pretty simple.
I'll get that done and uploaded.

How do you log and post this information. I have a Nanocom, does it need a memory card?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

It's reasonably easy, yes you need an SD card or micro SD with adapter, most cards under 4gb usually work, but not all.

There's info on AULRO and probably the nanocom site on procedure.

Just a quick update - I was all set to do some logging until my daughter's 110 crapped its clutch. I've spent the last couple of weeks getting that changed, and she's been driving the D2.

Will definitely get back onto the D2 once its back in my possession!!

V8Ian - the instructions on how to log the data to a file are on Page 15 of the Nanocom user manual: https://www.nanocom-diagnostics.com/...ardware-manual

Check the crank to cam timing using the pins

Check the injector bump stop clearance

That way you know the mechanical timing is tip top.

It will certainly improve your off idle pickup to correct these two things if they are out, I don't think that's your prime issue just helps to have as much as possible running to spec when you are fault finding.

But getting a nanocom log driving around will help a lot and should be something everyone should learn to do if they have a nano.

IMG_20230221_094424[1].jpg This is the card I use exclusively on my nano, formatted with the program downloaded from the black box site.

No issues it just works. The only annoying thing is all the files have same fixed time and date stamp as the nano is a bit of a software/hardware kludge job I think, albeit a very good one. I make my file names the date and add a number i.e. 21feb 21feb2 21feb3 if I am doing multiple runs.

I agree, Sticking wastegate would be an easy and quick check to do

Finally got the D2 back and had a chance to do a quick log capture.

No idea really what I'm looking for - but here's the file. I can also post screen shots of what it looks like in the Nanocom CSV viewer if that's more useful.
