Ummm
Which do you want answered? The title or the question?
Very different things!!!!
In the process of taking the radiator cowling off more than a few times I've lost 2 of the quarter turn fastener's that hold it on. Unfortunately they must be gold plates cos they're about 15/20 bucks each, has anyone found a cheaper source? Cos that's obscene for a fastener.

Q1: I would doubt it as there are plenty of times you want diff lock in high range as well.
Q2: Get some off a wreck . Personally never lost any, but those that came in without a couple got cable tied if didn't have any spares here, it's not as if it has to come off too often.
Edit: I see yours has to come off often, somehow, so maybe the wreck or fabricate a couple
Yes, it was pretty much the first CDL actuation linkage which became available in about 2000. It was made by John Davis Motor Works, the business which is now known as Davis Performace Landys, when you pull the transfer case into low range it locks the CDL, when you shift back into high range it unlocks the CDL. Its just a linkage on the transfercase.
Back then there were a whole range of solutions, I think AMV had a CDL lock which used like a windscreen wiper mechanism, Disco1 transfer levers were retrofitted (but increased noise into the cabin), there were pneumatically actuated systems, literally CDL linkage extensions with a shaft through into the centre console and so on. When the D2a came out, the go to solution was fitting the D2a mechanism and it seems to have been that ever since.

Appreciate those of you that answered, not entirely sure how I managed to stuff the title up. Only interested in some cheaper fasteners, yeah a wrecker would be a good plan I'm just lazy cos there's non nearby.
On the CDL thing one of the previous owners of my vehicle has fitted a d2a lever but used a second high/low cable with a homemade bracket in the TC cos the high/low cable doesn't work with the factory d2a bracket. Did cause some considerable confusion when I was reattaching it cos it was very finicky to get adjusted correctly
I very nearly answered the diff lock heading with a photo of a vacuum unit I'll be using, then you swapped the heading half way through me posting!!
That is cool!
I was looking at making one using an industrial cylinder like that, but found a company in the UK making these.

It uses the egr vacuum lines for switching/supply.
With a little patience you can get such fasteners from China, i ordered a 10 pcs set for my Audi which has both sides Car Undertray Guard Engine Under Cover Hood Snap Fixing Clips & Screws 8d0805960 8d0805121 For Audi A4 A6 For Vw Passat B5 - Engine Bonnets - AliExpress , arrived in 2 weeks and they are decent quality, i'll have to check if they fit the D2's radiator cowl as well but they seemed very similar, you have the dimensions too in that link so you can measure your's and compare
