No, as at the time I was after a later version VNT than the Turbo Technics one.

Curious to know what people's experience with Td5zilla tunes are. Have heard of a guy that had a VNT and went back to standard turbo with Td5zilla tune which he reckons performs better than the original VNT set up...which sounds hard to believe? I have a Storm Stage 2 tune on a MSB manual ECU...pretty happy with it (good mid-range, good economy, no smoke) but always looking for more...although difficult to find NNN manual ECUs, so that would be a challenge to changing my current setup easily/cheaply.
Always looking for creative new ways to get bogged... :whistling:

76 RR...sold coz fuel was expensive at 70c/l
    93 200 Tdi Disco...old faithful...sold to make way for...
    99 Td5 Disco ACE...nice drive...hopefully reliable...

All things being equal, a well sorted VGT and tune will be better, especially if you want stronger / earlier low/mid range.

P.M. Shack regarding your MSB ECU

Depending on how the tune and VNT were setup, I believe that...

I have no affiliation with Td5zilla at all, but I did a job for a guy a week ago who had fitted a VNT as an upgrade from a hybrid.

He was really really disappointed with how it went, said the hybrid was better.... New tune and I think he's happy now!!

Your mate can send me the VNT if he wants.

So, to clarify, he bolted on the VGT without changing the existing tune?

    Yep..

As you are aware with the common VGT/VNT turbos available, they are plumbed straight into the boost line, which limits performance somewhat.

I would have thought it would have been better than what he said it was, but there you go.

All good now though I think.

I have mapped about 25 cars with td5zilla tunes all love them including my on my daily disco, vnts are definitely harder to setup and dial in remotely and remember quite a few td5s have underlying issues that don’t get fixed so slapping a vnt and tune won’t magically solve it which some people think

I have the TRS tune, there are better options? I need to learn more Any TD5 turbo upgrades lately it blows black smoke under boost for a second! I'd love to not have that tune as I hate that place, they did me so wrong after and stole my modified manifold and put a warped one on it! Had to go get it then change it back myself! Thieves they are

I think they have been superceded!

In fairness they were competitive back in the day, but that was a while ago.

    VNT controller

Some very interesting chat in regards the VNT's and the methods of controlling them, below is a link to chat on patrol4x4 (forgive me, I used to own a ZD30)

MAGIC box =Fully adjustable and tunable MAF - MAP & electronic VNT controller | Patrol 4x4 - Nissan Patrol Forum

Reading the thread, basically it looks like it would be possible to set up a stepless vane controller fairly simply (I think the TD5 has basically the same inputs as the ZD) and I have read that the 3lt turbo's from the common rail patrols work on the TD5. Obviously it wouldn't be exactly plug and play, even with the Pootrol guys they need to make adjustments/tune etc to fully make use of the VNT

Personally I would love a properly controlled VNT'd TD5, I think it would pretty much transform the way it would drive (on and off road) with very little compromise, sadly at the moment my piggy bank is telling me that this will have to wait a while..

    Cheers

Admins, if not cool for me to post the link, delete if needed and I will change the post.
