Rear drive shaft disappeared no drive?

My son just called from the motorway to say he lost drive in his V8 D2, no rear propshaft visible but a mate behind didn't see it fall off.... no drive and waiting on towie.

I'm hoping the TC is OK. He doesn't want to out the CDL on (his 01 has it) as worried about damage.

Will sing out if we have questions on repair once I know more

Dunno how one could lose a drive shaft and not know. Surely it would bang around no matter which end came off first.

Must be those dastardly stealth propshaft removalists, you'll never see them in action unless you stick a camera underneath, because they only do it when the cars moving....

But just in case it's not that, tell him to try putting it back into high range.

Same no clue how you'd miss that even with the music all the way up. Took a mates partner a few months to forgive him after she was rudely woken up by a front prop departing @110.

As to locking the CDL, depends on what's missing/still flailing around. Annoyingly you can't tighten the rear output bolts to hold the brake drum on without the propshaft there.

    Gee,he needs a hearing test

That would have still been making a huge noise after the thump when it broke,or maybe not if it came out of the splines.

Anyway, could have been a lot worse.

NO. The rear propshaft must be removed first. Second thing would be to check the condition of the front propshaft. If it's been as neglected as the rear one, then it, too, could break with genuinely catastrophic consequences.

AOK, he has access to a car lift so got it fixed after I ran around town to get the parts. The rubber roto-flex was $209... bolts and nuts $30 for 12.

    Will check the front.
