Do that. Pay close attention to the double cardan joint at the transmission end, because that is a VERY expensive show stopper if it lets go.

As above, my son was driving the D2 and the front shaft let go, took out the rear of the transmission (literally tore it off, snapped the output spline!!) a rather costly exercise.....
