    Is my TD5 Alternator OK?

I have my Nanocom Evo permanently mounted in the TD5 in instrument mode.

Not sure if this is normal?

My question is - is it normal for the voltage to surge up and down within a 0.5V range within a few seconds, or is my alternator (or some other part like the voltage regulator) on the way out?

The voltage normally sits around high 13V /low 14V, even on a long trip.

1999 10P motor has done almost 200K km, and this is not the original alternator (changed it out about 20K km/5 plus years ago after we think a diode failed and the speedo stopped working).

There is a voltage drop issue somewhere that is still an unresolved work in progress after doing all the obvious fuse and relay checks.

There are two SSB under bonnet batteries that are nearly 2 years old, and apart from dealing with the voltage drop issue/s have been unproblematic.

sounds normal, though you should see up to 14.7ish after starting on cold days.

You can do a diode test and if that's all good, you might have to start pulling fuses while checking with a multi meter.

If at idle it will be just the normal crankshaft speed variation or could be a failing dynamic balancer or belt tensioner.
I notice mine fluctuates a bit and you can see the tensioner jumping around but my db is tight and tensioner ok.

    Yes it’s normal.

I get the same behaviour after I changed my engine harness to a new genuine one, then same again when I also changed to a new Denso alternator.

Mines the same, has always done it. Voltage moves up and down all of the time within a similar voltage range, if not a bit more.
    Cheers
