With the year of the model, generally think a year or so before the actual stated year. It's related to the way UK models are released during the year.
That is, it was about 2001 when they removed the CDL internals, but in Aus, a '2001' model could have been made in 2000(the year that the CDL insides still existed).
    Quite complicated process.

Things that would come up as questionable with for example the last linked car(the Adelaide car).. they list that both lower balljoints were recently done.
In my mind, 99% of the job is getting them off. The actual price of the balljoints themselves are quite cheap, considering LR pricing structures sometimes.
So, to do only the lowers seems a bit stupid. Balljoints do last a long time, but there is a high probability(with the given info) that the upper ball joints could very well be on their last legs.

If you are interested, then research the job of doing balljoints. Not impossible for the do it yerselfer, but still quite a hard job to do yourself.

Also check out carsales. There is currently a 2001 in a nice dark blue one(is Auto tho) at $6K too.
Personally, I really don't like the operation of the R380 box. Not a bad box, and for sure better than the old LT95 cruncher in my RRC days, but the auto makes a much nicer vehicle all round. TD5 is easy to tune, and when matched to a tuned autobox too, is a great feeling.

In saying that tho ... I am pretty much 100% lazy nowadays!

Just did ball joints in mine. The lower ones were a pig. Uppers were ok to do, so why they aren't mentioned is a little strange.

I really like the R380 in my D1, but then it is a suffix L Ashcroft.

The ad for the white one does state the CDL is there. Weird cable set up though.

Meaning the factory fit a transfer case with internals, but no means to lock. Aftermarket engagement enabled by a previous owner. Thanks John.

It's the "from outside the vehicle" bit I find weird. Of course, it might just be poorly worded.

Some vendors made a simple extension from the t/c to under the sill, operated by lever or cable.
A bit inconvenient, but probably well sorted and reliable.

I did see this one come up in the Australian Land Rover 2 Owners facebook group:

    1996 Discovery 1 300TDI (Manual)

    - Single Owner
    - Original Log books
    - Service history
    - Clear Title
    - Roadworthy certificate
    - Maintained by David Lawrence, Capalaba
    - Odometer 205560 km
    - Asking price $14,750

    Location - Teneriffe 4005

Looks quite good? Its a TDI engine but interested what anyone might think.

Interesting. A D1 is a different beast to a D2. Pros and cons, obviously. 300TDi is a great engine, but in stock form cannot match a TD5, so that will depend on your needs. The price is a little steep, perhaps, but I see their value increasing more so than the D2. If this one is really clean and the price is negotiable then I would get one of our intrepid banana benders to run an eye over it.
Once again, it depends on your needs. TDi is a very robust engine, but a bit of a plodder. I have one of each ( auto for the D2 ), and if I set off for Queensland I'd definitely prefer the D2. It has a few more comforts, easily maintains highway speeds with overtaking power in reserve, and has more space in the rear. A little more refined as well. But there's something about a D1, something difficult to put your finger on, that is more endearing, more characterful. I would also take it to Queensland, but in a more laid back manner.
Probably none of that helps at all!
