Yes you can have your td5 torque converter modified to have a lower stall speed.
V8 torque converter is larger diameter which means strong lockup clutch
What is the difference in stall, between the Td5 and 4 litre converters?
Are there any other, characteristics apart from the obvious fitment, between the two?
Can a Td5 converter be modified to emulate the V8 component?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

2800 rpm stall speed on little td5 unit
2200 rpm stall on v8 unit
This translates to less slip at lower revs too, so as you take off you can feel the car move better in response to the foot as versus the td5 where it revs but the car plays catch up.
My POS is a very different (much improved) car all round since I installed the v8 converter (local bought used unmodified v8 converter and ashcroft fitment kit), regardless of whether I am running the td5 or v8 transmission controller (the trans control box under the seat).
I wouldn't bother modifying the td5 converter, basically very straightforward plug and play fitment of v8 converter with ashcroft kit and it goes fine with stock tune.
Installing the Ashcroft Transmissions V8 torque converter is still the best modification I have done to my MY03 D2a Td5.
