I am going to try that method even though it has a front sunroof.
I want to get a tester like that but for home entertainment remotes. Trouble is, apart from Apple stuff they’re all IR, not RF.
Neither key is detected. I have a third one somewhere.

Hmm. Given all the craziness that the car was exhibiting recently perhaps I would be wise to attempt reprogramming them before I commit to surgery. All the BCM functions went nuts until I traced it to corrosion in the interior fusebox. It all seems to have reverted to normal except for the key for stuff and perhaps the fuel gauge.
Worth trying. I did it already but that was before I did the fusebox. Thing was so weird that I sorta lost track of what I was doing.

bit of a body contortion to lean over the headlining without putting too much weight on it but easy enough

not sure about this bit but perhaps good to disconnect battery negative before swapping out the receiver. swapped mine out and went to detect the keys with nanocom but the fuse for diagnostics (fuse 20) had blown. put in a new fuse and all good again and nanocom powered up and detected keys all good. maybe just coincidence? but nanocom was working prior to swapping out the receiver (and wasnt detecting the keys hence the swap).

Oh yes, batt -ve off for all of this kind of work. I'm hoping the front sunroof doesn't impede me pulling the lining down. I'm still going to try reprogramming first, only takes a minute. Just want it to stop raining...

That was fun..... The aftermarket sunroof blocks access to one of the bolts. I also noticed that there was an earth wire not connected. Dunno. Anyway, put the spare receiver in on the one bolt I could get at ( with the earth wire ) and hey presto, two working plibs...

I'll sort it properly when I do the lining... when it's warmer and drier...

Actually, neither had I until this particular journey into the wilds of the internet. I've always caloled them remotes, or sometimes fobs, although I used to think a fob was one of these:
