I'll be interested to hear the diagnosis, the symptoms sound a bit unusual to me, but other than a diff that's let go, I'm at a loss.

You have checked that neither of the prop shafts are turning when you try and move it I guess?

If it is the Auto it could be anything in it that's let go I guess, or even the torque converter or flex plate, but usually there's a fair bit of fluid loss from collateral damage.

Heavy duty Flex plate was fitted a couple of years ago when i did the pump case "O" ring, car starts and runs so flex plate must be good. Diffs and drive shafts fine. No bangs or noises just stopped driving.

Car can still start and run with a broken flex plate, but if it's a correctly fitted heavy duty one, it's unlikely to be that.

Drop the inspection plate off the bottom of the bell housing ( 3 x 8mm heads ) and turn the ring gear with a screwdriver back and forward to see if the torque converter will turn in both directions.

If yes, then it's probably the converter or "A" clutch

conver to manual if you can

Car is now home just need to wait for the rain to stop and ground to dry out to start diagnosing. Thinking out loud if the pipes to the cooler and back are on the return to the sump, if i crack a pipe fitting and it sprays out it will confirm the pump is working. The other thought was if i manually activate the Torque converter lock up line and see what happens. Then to drain the sump and see what in there. It's had just had a filter change so the fluid should be clean if all is good inside.
Was 3120 LDV and 3120 trailer/Leaky over the weigh bridge on the way home. Used it's own winch to pull itself on.

Might seem silly, but it didn’t slip out of high range did it? My D1 did that sometimes.

Slipping out of high range has happened to me a couple of times with the D2. Easy to check.

I've had the "jumped out of hi range" issue too in the D1.

but didn't reply as a possible cause coz OP said ...

If you don't want to check the flex plate for whatever reason, then starting the car and undoing the level plug will tell you if the pump is working / turning, assuming the level was correct and no leaks.

If fluid ****es out while the engine is running then you'll know it's not ( working/turning).
