I took the steering wheel off again, sprayed electical contact lube in the moving parts. Put the steering wheel back on. The steering was very very heavy. Took the steering wheel off. Had a good look. The black plastic ring with locating tabs had those tabs bent. Ooops. Straightened the tabs carefully, put the steering wheel back on, better, but not centred. Remove steering wheel, adjust repalce steering wheel repeat. I ended up leaving the air bag cassette? container off after the second time I removed the wheel. FOurth of fifth try, the steering was almost centred and very light, amazingly light. I put the air bag part back on, took it off, torqued the steering wheel nut to spec, put the air bag back. All good. What a performance.
Now I just need to change the front left hub.
